The next Nexus tablet will be from HTC

Each and every new version of Google’s Android operating system is greeted by the arrival of a new Nexus smartphone or tablet that represents the purist version of both hardware and software for the given generation of Android. And with the impending arrival of the latest ‘L’ version later this year, a new Nexus must therefore be right around the corner.

According to sources at for both the Wall Street Journal and The Verge as well as a small error on the part of NVIDIA’s website, we’re almost 100% certain that the next Nexus will be a Nexus 9 tablet from HTC.

From the scarce few details we have the Nexus 9 will in all likelihood be a 9 inch tablet powered by NVIDIA’s much hyped Tegra K1 processor.

The Nexus 9 will in all likelihood sit in between and replace the 7 inch ASUS-made Nexus 7 tablet which we thoroughly enjoyed using last year, as well as the high specced but poorly received 10 inch Nexus 10 tablet which Samsung have been making since 2012 but we haven’t been lucky enough to get in SA.

HTC were the first company to ever make a Nexus smartphone for Google (having been the firm behind the original Nexus One smartphone) and are the makers of arguably the best designed – if not the best overall – Android smartphone available today, the HTC One.

While the date of the Android L release remains elusive, at least we now have an additional something to eagerly anticipate for the next few weeks as the next operating system remains just out of our collective grasp.
