Eight plugin-free games for Firefox and Chrome hit the Humble store

Mozilla and the Humble Bundle website have teamed up to offer eight games for gamers’ browsers. And not just any games, either, these are full-on PC releases that have been ported to run on Chrome and Firefox without needing any plugins. It’s a fairly major technological achievement, really.

The first five games can be bought for a minimum donation of $1, which today is just over R11. They include Super Hexagon, AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! for the Awesome, Osmos, Zen Bound 2, and Dustforce DX, and honestly each one of them alone is worth far more than that, so feel free to throw money at the developers.

As is always the case when game bundles are sold via Humble, you get to name your price for a few of them (minimum donation of $1), with others being unlocked should you meet or exceed the average donation amount.

Should you donate more than the current average of $5.12 (around R56), you’ll unlock Voxatron and FTL: Advanced Edition, and if you put in more than $8 (R88 or so) you’ll also get Democracy 3, a superb politics simulator that’s as close as a game developer has come to capturing the essence of the world of democratic politics.

You’ll notice there is a blank space for a ninth unknown game that will become available at some point in the future for all buyers who meet or exceed the average amount.

Lastly, you’ll get to choose how to split your donation, too, between the Humble store, the developers and a charity; this time it’s the Maker Education Initiative, an organisation that works to inspire an interest in science in young children.

What are you waiting for? Go grab those games!
