The latest Xbox One update has barely rolled out to everyone, and Microsoft is already talking about what gamers will see in the next one that’s out in November.

The two most interesting upcoming features are Twitter integration and the ability to set custom backgrounds. Backgrounds in particular appear to be the late-2014 battleground where Microsoft and Sony lock horns, with Sony adding Themes to the PS4 in a soon-to-be-released update.

The update has, as usual, rolled out to a handful of Preview Program members, but when it gets to everyone you’ll be able to tweet video clips, updates and more to your followers once you’ve signed into your Twitter account on your Xbox One.

Microsoft has also added art to achievements that unlock when they pop that can be set as backgrounds for your Home screen, and when the Media Player app is updated in late October, you’ll also get the chance to set any image as your background.

According to the preview video put out by Microsoft, players have been asking to have the option to add their bios and location to their profiles, as they could on the 360. That ability is coming back in the November update.

It may not be a headline feature, but the thing I like the most is the option to create a video showcase of things you’ve done in-game as well as achievements you’ve unlocked that plays when people view your profile.

Deon du Plessis

Deon got his first taste of PC gaming at the tender age of 11 when his father bought an 8088 XT, ostensibly to "help him with his homework". Instead, it introduced him to Leisure Suit Larry, King Graham, Sonny Bonds and many more, and Deon has been a PC gamer and hardware enthusiast ever since. He landed his first professional writing gig in 2006 at a prestigious local PC magazine, a very happy happenstance as he got to write for a living about things he loves - tech, PCs, gaming, and everything in between. He's been writing about it all ever since, and loves every minute of it.
