The MTN South Africa Foundation and mLab are looking for 15 young developers who want to start their own businesses to make a difference in their local communities to take part in the MTN SA Foundation Community App Challenge.

During the two-day MTN SA Foundation Community App Challenge, the selected 15 participants will be divided into three groups of five and will be provided with a mentor and resources to develop a prototype app that addresses three different community-based problems that the foundation has already identified.

Teams stand to win a number of prizes as well as  the opportunity to develop their app into a startup and receive advertising commitment from MTN SA Foundation valued at R16 500.

Once the apps have been completed and are ready for commercial release, MTN staff at the company headquarters will evaluate and test the apps. One winner will be chosen from the three and will be announced at the MTN Business App of the Year Awards in July 2015.

“We are very excited to be launching the MTN SA Foundation Community App Challenge and hackathon together with mLab,” said Angie Maloka from the MTN SA Foundation. “There can be no better way of sourcing up and coming young talent, whilst simultaneously developing new entrepreneurs in the mobile app development space – and all for the greater good of our communities.”

The MTN SA Foundation Community App Challenge takes place from 14th to 16th November at the mLab offices in Pretoria. Entries are open to mobile app developers and graphic designers between the ages of 18 to 30 with some experience in their field, the deadline for entry submission is 26th October.
