The new version brings a similar design to that of the Windows versions of the Office suite which were all updated in 2012. Microsoft says it will improve productivity with better scrolling and agility when switching through the ‘Ribbon’.

Online archive support for Exchange searches, Master Category List syncing as well as push email support for Office 365 accounts are all part of the feature upgrades rolling out with the new version.

For Office 365 consumer users, you can head over to your ‘My Account’ section to download the latest version of the software along with instructions for how to upgrade your current Outlook to the new version as well.

New Outlook for Mac

From the outside it would appear that Microsoft’s Office productivity software for Mac has fallen to the wayside having missed out on a major update for the last four years however, with the release of Outlook, the Office team took the chance to explain what had caused the delay in the new version, Office for iPad and other mobile applications that required more immediate attention in their blog post about the update.

Microsoft will be releasing new versions of the rest of the Office suite for Mac – Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote – in the second half of next year with a public beta to precede it. The updated apps will, of course, be available for free to Office 365 customers as well as in the form of a purchasable version of Office for Mac 2015 when it does finally arrive.
