Telkom confirms pricing for DSTV & broadband package

News just in from Telkom: the operator has confirmed the pricing for its forthcoming almost-quad-play deal with MultiChoice. New and existing subscribers to the firm’s R899 a month SmartHome Premium broadband package will be eligible for a free DSTV Explora from 22nd November on.

The contract is over 24 months, and in order to qualify customers will need to connect the Explora to their router. In doing so, they’ll be able to access the new online services MultiChoice has added to the box, including remote recording.

All the perks of the existing SmartHome package remain: that’s a 10Mbps ADSL line, 50GB of data plus unlimited evening data, and four Telkom mobile sims with voice, data and free WiFi access too. It’s not quite a true “quadplay” package though: the DSTV subscription isn’t included in the price, so you’ll have to ante up a separate R399 or R665 for a HD-friendly bundle from the TV operator.

Telkom told us back in September that a tie-in with DSTV was on the cards. The big question that we have now is whether or not this relationship will evolve into true quadplay packages with DSTV video on demand and internet streams appearing in Telkom bundles, or whether it’s a one-off promotional deal.
