Telkom reveals fibre-to-the-home pricing plans

What do we want?

Faster internet!

When do we want it?

Now!

How much do we want to pay?

Funny you should ask, as Telkom has just released the pricing plans for its fibre-to-the-home service in suburbs across Gauteng, Kwa-Zulu Natal and the Western Cape. Fibre speeds start off at a VDSL rivalling 20Mbps and 40Mbps and then accelerate up to a blistering 100Mbps.

Residents of Groenkloof, Houghton, Eldoraigne, Parktown and Westcliff in Gauteng; Chelmsfordville, Dawncrest, and Winston Park in Kwa-Zulu Natal and Clairmont, Bishops Court and Plattekloof in the Western Cape can head across to Telkom’s FTTH website to find out whether the service is already active or impending for their address and register interest in setting up a connection.

Telkom’s promotional 24 month FTTH contracts include a free WiFi router, a 3GB mailbox, email accounts with five aliases and “Unlimited Night Surfer” data:

  • 20Mbps line – 50GB data – R999 per month
  • 40Mbps line – 100GB data – R1299 per month
  • 100Mbps line – 200 GB data – R1799 per month

Last month Telkom also unveiled its 150Mbps capable LTE-Advanced network in Parkview which the company will be using to address areas covered by other fibre players like Vumatel or where rolling out fibre is cost prohibitive. Comparatively the LTE-A service costs R1 399 and comes with a 100GB a month cap which, depending on your specific level of coverage may end up being a far better proposition for many.

Either way, kudos to Telkom for getting fibre out before the end of the year as promised.
