As is traditional among media houses around the world, castle is abuzz with excitement that the end of the year is upon us. Not only is it a time for a break and a spot of R&R, it’s also time for annual retrospectives looking back at what happened and what we learned in 2014.

And we’re starting with games.

We know what our favourite videogames of the year were, and we’ll be telling you over the course of the next few weeks. But what did you lot enjoy playing?

We want to know so we can hand over a prestigious reader’s award – the only award that really matters – to the awesome developer of the most voted game. And to encourage you to submit your ideas, we’ve put together a little compo.

Ubisoft has given us two awesome special edition bundles of two of the year’s best games to give away. We’ve got:

Assassin’s Creed: Unity

  • T-shirt
  • Notebook
  • Key ring
  • Pen
  • Badges
  • Seal wax kit
  • Copy of the game on the platform of your choice

Far Cry 4

  • Pen
  • Pagan Min’s wig (yes, really)
  • Badge
  • Lighter
  • T-shirt
  • Key ring
  • Copy of the game on the platform of your choice

To win one of these bundles, all you need to do is tell us what your favourite game of 2014 has been, and we’ll pick two people at random and announce the winners at the beginning of January. You can only win one of the hampers, so be sure to tell us which one you want, and what platform you want the game on.

The options are Far Cry 4 on PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, and Assassin’s Creed: Unity on PC, PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.

Entries close at 23:59 on the 30th of December and the winners will be announced in the new year.

Deon du Plessis

Deon du Plessis

Deon got his first taste of PC gaming at the tender age of 11 when his father bought an 8088 XT, ostensibly to "help him with his homework". Instead, it introduced him to Leisure Suit Larry, King Graham, Sonny Bonds and many more, and Deon has been a PC gamer and hardware enthusiast ever since. He landed his first professional writing gig in 2006 at a prestigious local PC magazine, a very happy happenstance as he got to write for a living about things he loves - tech, PCs, gaming, and everything in between. He's been writing about it all ever since, and loves every minute of it.
