[MAP MONDAY] Is South Africa a happy place to live in?

South Africa doesn’t produce enough quality long, happy and sustainable lives for its residents, according to the Happy Planet Index (HPI).

The HPI, compiled by the New Economics Foundation (NEF), ranks 151 countries in 2012 based on global data on the countries’ life expectancy, well being and environmental footprint. Each country is measured and given a score under the three categories and one overall score over 100 that ranks them on a list.

South Africa ranked at the bottom 10 at a score of 28.2, with low points for life expectancy and environmental footprint.
