Minecraft for Xbox gets into the Christmas spirit with this holiday-themed DLC pack

While it’s always the season to be blocky if you’re into Minecraft, it’s only the season to be jolly between now and early January.

To celebrate the year end – and to bring together two of the biggest things happening right now, Minecraft and Christmas – Minecraft studio Mojang has put out a holiday-themed DLC pack for the Xbox One and Xbox 360 versions of the game that adds all sorts of Christmassy goodies.

Shacknews says it’s called the Festive Mash-up Pack, and it will let players make very wintry levels with blocks that have snow and fairy lights on them, and replace the soundtrack with Christmas-themed tunes by Minecraft’s original composer, C418. There will also be new avatar skins available that will let players dress their avatars up as Santa Claus and his elves, and even change enemy appearances into something more holiday-appropriate.

It costs $2.99, which is around R35 right now (thanks, Eskom), and is exclusive to the Xbox 360 and Xbox One for now, with a release on other platforms coming at a later date.

Thanks to the magic and moddability of the PC, Minecraft for Windows already has access to Christmas-themed Minecraft goodies thanks to modders like PlanetMinecraft’s C_IS_CREATIVE, who put out a huge overhaul mod as early as September that adds plenty of Christmas cheer to the game by way of texture replacements. PC players, grab it here.
