Grand Theft Auto V PC version delayed, minimum specs shared

It’s not a good time for Grand Theft Auto fans waiting to play Number Five on PC: late yesterday Rockstar posted news of its delay, a rather disappointing turn of events given that we’re two weeks away from the last release date they gave, January 27th.

GTA V for PC is now coming out on the 24th of March, giving the studio just over two months to finish the “testing and polishing” they cite on their blog as being the reason for pushing the date out.

But this isn’t the first time the game has been delayed. When Grand Theft Auto V came out for the PS4 and Xbox One last year, the PC version didn’t arrive at the same time as many had hoped it would, and Rockstar said the same thing then as now: it needed more polish to be as amazing as possible on PC.

In the good news column, Rockstar also released the minimum and recommended hardware needed to run the game smoothly, and they’re actually quite reasonable and won’t require a massive upgrade for the majority of gamers to run it smoothly at 1080p.

Minimum specifications:
OS: Windows 8.1 64 Bit, Windows 8 64 Bit, Windows 7 64 Bit Service Pack 1, Windows Vista 64 Bit Service Pack 2* (*NVIDIA video card recommended if running Vista OS)
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs) / AMD Phenom 9850 Quad-Core Processor (4 CPUs) @ 2.5GHz
Memory: 4GB
Video Card: NVIDIA 9800 GT 1GB / AMD HD 4870 1GB (DX 10, 10.1, 11)
Sound Card: 100% DirectX 10 compatible
HDD Space: 65GB
DVD Drive

Recommended specifications:
OS: Windows 8.1 64 Bit, Windows 8 64 Bit, Windows 7 64 Bit Service Pack 1
Processor: Intel Core i5 3470 @ 3.2GHZ (4 CPUs) / AMD X8 FX-8350 @ 4GHZ (8 CPUs)
Memory: 8GB
Video Card: NVIDIA GTX 660 2GB / AMD HD7870 2GB
Sound Card: 100% DirectX 10 compatible
HDD Space: 65GB
DVD Drive

Gamers with super-powerful rigs, on the other hand, will be able to run it at super-high 4K resolutions and across multiple monitors if they want, and Rockstar has even built in support for NVIDA’s 3D Vision technology that lets appropriately-kitted PCs explore Los Santos in three dimensions.

The much-anticipated and oft-delayed Heists mode for GTA V Online will also launch alongside the PC version of the game for all platforms.

Personally, I’m no longer upset when big-name studios delay the release of their games. Sure, it can be disappointing to have to wait a bit longer, but I’m an adult and I’m okay with that because it’s far preferable to playing games that aren’t ready for public consumption at launch.

I’m also not upset because I’m still playing Dragon Age: Inquisition, Dying Light is almost upon us (Jan 27) and I’ve pre-ordered the Grim Fandango re-release.
