Twitter hits a six with Cricket World Cup coverage

If you are South African, chance are that you are keeping one eye on the television to catch the Proteas take on the rest of the world in this year’s edition of the Cricket World Cup.

But unfortunately most of the matches are taking place early in the mornings or during office hours as the tournament is being held in Australia. Luckily for us, microblogging site Twitter is aiming to keep you abreast of all the action.

Sports fans at Twitter have created their very own landing site to aggregate comments about the world cup, mostly focused on the hashtag #CWC2015.

The timeline of the hashtag consists of a number of news tweets and photos from various sources across the world, as well as a special tab where you can see upcoming fixtures as well as current scores for matches in progress.

You can get all the World Cup info on Twitter.

On the mobile version you can tap on any match in progress, and view tweets relating to the match.

“Given the millions of cricket fans who are on Twitter, we wanted to create something that would let you follow and participate in this global event. We’ve created the Cricket World Cup timeline, your one stop for cricket Tweets, commentary and expert analysis, plus photos, videos and Vines from the sidelines at the world’s biggest cricketing event,” Twitter said in a blog post.

Mobile operator MTN also announced last week that access to Twitter will be free for the duration of the tournament.
