Lonehill’s fibre to the home gets turned on today

As Fibre to the Home (FTTH) grows in popularity and connectivity, MTN has added another suburb to its growing list of communities that will be able to connect to the super-fast internet connection.

Earlier this month MTN revealed a number of affluent suburbs around South Africa that will be connected by means of FTTH, and although Lonehill was included in those plans, a number of connectivity issues prevented a proper rollout.

But according to the Lonehilll Residents Association (LRA), those connectivity issues have now been resolved, and the suburb will get FTTH. And the first 133 homes should be connected today.

The rest of the suburb will be connected over the next two months.

“The total distance of the roll-out during this phase will be 7.5 kilometres. MTN will provide the infrastructure at its own cost and will maintain it during the lifespan of the technology. It has also set up a dedicated 24-hour FTTH centre to provide support services to its customers,” MTN said in a media statement.

As previously stated by MTN, pricing will start from R794 per month for MTN Supersonic, which will include installation and the associated devices, and a 20GB cap at a speed of 20Mbps.

To go a little bit faster, there is a 50Mbps offering with a 50GB cap at just over R1 000 per month, while a 100Mbps line with a 100GB cap will be R1 400.

“MTN owns fibre in all major metros in South Africa and has extensive capacity in the undersea cables on both the east and west coasts of Africa. As such, we can provide our customers with a truly high value fibre network that meets their connectivity requirements for the digital world,” adds Eben Albertyn, Chief Technology Officer at MTN South Africa,” added Eben Albertyn, Chief Technology Officer at MTN South Africa.
