Facebook wants you to use its phone dialler on Android

It looks like Facebook is about to take another stab at integrating an app in your Android phone. It attempted to replace Android homescreens with its own social media application, Facebook Home, about two years ago and that didn’t do too well. Now, it’s trying to get you to use a new phone-dialer app, imaginatively called Phone, instead of the default Android one, according to Android Police.

But what does it do? Well, besides giving you more information when the caller happens to be on your Facebook friend’s list, it will also block numbers from commonly blacklisted ones.

It appears that Phone was activated on Facebook’s server by accident. A notification popped up on users’ phones, asking them whether or not they would like to try Phone. Clicking on a the Install/Download button took users to a page that didn’t exist.

In the description of the app, it says that Phone is “a new app that shows you info about who’s calling and automatically blocks calls from commonly blocked numbers”.

Gizmodo notes that if Facebook history is anything to go by, it will more than likely be an Android-only application in the near future.
