Gears of War creator waxes lyrical about Valve’s Vive VR headset

Cliff Bleszinksi, the man behind one of the Xbox 360’s most successful franchises and a big name in gaming, told an audience at PAX East yesterday that using Valve’s Vive VR headset was “like the first time I went to Disneyland. It was absolutely magical,” according to Gamespot.

This is music to my ears and, I am sure, the ears of other cautiously-hopeful VR enthusiasts.

When asked about VR in general, Bleszinski responded that he doesn’t think VR will become ubiquitous overnight, but that it’s also a very good thing the sector is heating up thanks to the emergence of several competitors to Oculus Inc.’s Rift headset.

Right now, there’s the Oculus Rift, Sony’s Project Morpheus headset, Razer’s OpenVR initiative and Valve’s Vive headset all gunning for top spot, and from what I’ve been reading and hearing, Valve has taken over as the favourite from the Rift, with several high-profile journalists praising its excellent design and the amazing experience on offer.

It’s nice to hear someone of his status being so down to earth about the whole thing. Me, I can’t help but feel even more excited to strap a VR headset to my noggin.

VR stuff aside, Cliffy B is busy with his own project at the moment, a free-to-play shooter codenamed Project Bluestreak that’s built on Unreal Engine 4. His previous work includes the Gears of War series, helping People Can Fly on the amazing but under-rated Bulletstorm and of course all of the Unreal games.
