Posts from friends will now dominate your Facebook News Feed

Tweaks to Facebook’s algorithm announced yesterday means that you’ll now see more posts from friends, and fewer from brands and web publishers.

There are three changes in total detailed by the announcement: The first is “improving the experience for people who don’t have a lot of content available to see.” You will now be able to see posts from one source/friend in a row when there are no new posts made by your other friends. Facebook is doing away with the rule that prevented this from happening.

The second update is an attempt “to make the balance of content the right one for each individual person.” This will be achieved by making sure that content posted by friends you care about and pages you interact with are higher up on your News Feed.

The final change is one from feedback by Facebook users that are active on other social networks. Apparently, most don’t like “seeing stories about their friends liking or commenting on a post,” so these posts will now appear lower on your news feed, if at all.

All in all, these changes will ensure that posts from brands and web publishers take a back seat and that your Facebook page is, ultimately, more about you.
