Instagram a selfie for CT’s StateoftheART expo to win a painted version of it

The StateoftheART gallery in Cape Town is gearing up to host the (Life)Like exhibition, featuring twins Alvira and Alouette Ferreira, next month and is inviting the public to be part of the expo by submitting a selfie via Instagram and standing a chance to have it painted by the South African sisters.

(Life)Like explores the relationship between the physical world and virtual reality using Instagram photos as a source of inspiration and transforming them into painted works of art.

“They focus on internet memes as replacements for age old genres. Portraits have been replaced by selfies and still lifes have been replaced by food porn, cat photos and “what’s in my bag” photos,” StateoftheART says.

“This project aims to circumvent the fleeting relevance of a social media image through the medium of paint.”

(Life)Like opens on the 7th May with selected works to be placed on display until the 23rd. You can join in on a live painting session to be hosted between 11am and 5pm where you can see Alvira and Alouette in action turning a number of Instagram posts into paintings, thereafter the selfie competition will be hosted from 9pm.

Visit the StateoftheART website to see some of the (Life)Like artworks on sale and for more info about the exhibition.
