Telltale working on a Marvel game for 2017

At an event last night in San Francisco, the studio behind The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones episodic adventure games told the world that it’s working with Marvel to bring a Marvel-themed game out in 2017. It was announced on Telltale’s official blog, and reported on by several games websites; we found the info on Eurogamer.

This adds a superhero-themed game to Telltale’s already-packed list of ongoing projects, which right now includes those two aforementioned titles as well as Tales from the Borderlands, The Wolf Among us and as-yet unnamed games featuring some sort of Minecraft spin-off and new IPs being developed in collaboration with Lionsgate films.

Before you get too excited and start screaming “Shut up and take my money!” at your screen, the studio hasn’t said anything other than this about the project, so nobody knows yet which of Marvel’s superheroes will get the Telltale treatment in 2017.

Still, this is good news anyway because Telltale’s games have steadily been getting better, and the money they’ve been making on their games has clearly allowed them to hire the right people for the job.

While it’s possible the game may take a completely different form entirely, it’s unlikely as Telltale’s strengths lie with its story-driven narratives.

I just hope that the lives and stories of superheroes, which seem far more suited to action-packed 3D games than quasi-3D dialogue-rich games with awkward QTEs driving the action, work well with Telltale’s existing formula.

What do you all think? Which Marvel property would you like to see in an episodic adventure game in 2017? Me, I’m rooting for the crew from Guardians of the Galaxy.
