Shopzilla rises as Kalahari closes doors

The final part of the merger between South African etailers Kalahari and Takealot has been completed, and the former’s site vanished from the internet.

A mailout from Takealot to existing customers of both brands described the event as having “tied the knot”.

Should you attempt to go to Kalahari.com today, you’ll be redirected to Takealot’s website and treated to a popup that delivers the news that the two sites are now one.

If you bought things from both sites using the same email address, you should have received a notice that your order history and any credits for Kalahari have been merged into your Takealot account.

The merger was first announced back in October of last year, and it was approved in January when the Competition Commission gave the union its blessing.

As with all weddings, once the euphoria of the union fades the real work will start. Let’s hope that means awesome sales and specials.
