No Silent Hills for Xbox

The rumour mill got a bit out of hand this weekend with the “news” (via IGN) that Microsoft would be buying Silent Hills, as leaked by an anonymous source.

The source initially indicated that the game was 80% complete, and that Microsoft had attempted to acquire the game for a sum of money in the “billions” from publisher Konami.

This appears to be rubbish, a fact confirmed in no uncertain terms by Xbox’s chief Phil Spencer, who tweeted the following in response to another tweet from a Silent Hill fan:

Silent Hills, in case you didn’t know, was set to be the latest instalment in the Silent Hill franchise. It was teased by a playable first-person demo called PT released earlier this year for the PS4. Oh, and it scared the bejezus out of players with its incredibly life-like graphics and creepy mechanics.

The teaser was removed from the PlayStation Store in late April, however, on news of the game’s cancellation.

Sadly, nobody seems sure of the game’s fate at this stage, but there’s a lot of hope that Konami will say something about it at E3 which takes place in Los Angeles in just over two weeks’ time.
