[CAUSE OF THE WEEK] Can you help this NPO make some vids?

Last month, we ran a series of articles in association with volunteer skills matching organisation forgood asking if htxt.africa readers could help worthy causes with a few hours of their time. The results were so successful, we’re going to make this a regular feature from hereon in.

Mandela Day is just around the corner, which reminds us all that it’s good to give something back to the communities from whence we came and help out those a little less fortunate than ourselves. If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, check out the list of causes seeking specialist skills on forgood.co.za.

Here’s one we’ve selected for you: Joburg-based Itanti-Org is looking for people who can its work documenting LGBTI rights abuses across the continent.

What do you need?

We need freelance video editors to help us with video editing work, and also to assist us with editing training on a long-term basis.

Who are you?

Iranti-Org is a queer human rights visual media organization. We work within a human rights framework as foundational platform for raising issues on Gender, Identities and Sexuality.

Who do you help?

We help Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex individuals by raising awareness and influencing legislation. Through film,
photography, audio and print, we give a voice to people who, due to their gender identity and sexual orientation, are increasingly marginalized and prosecuted.

What difference will this make?

Having a more constant stream of available, edited videos to upload to our You Tube Channel and share on social media, will help us push our real time reporting. We document human rights violations against the LGBTI community. It would also be useful for social dialogue to be used for example in schools and in our discourse with government.

Do you have the skills to help Iranti-Org? Visit the forgood site here to sign up.
