Jon Stewart bids farewell as host of The Daily Show

Talk show host Jon Stewart bid farewell to his viewers last night, as he signed off on his last show after being the host of The Daily Show for 16 years.

“This show isn’t ending. This is just a pause in the conversation. Rather than saying goodbye or goodnight, I’m just going to say that I’m going to get a drink. Nothing ever ends. … it’s been a privilege,” he said.

South African comedian Trevor Noah, who will be taking over as host from September, joined a number of other celebrities and correspondents to wish Stewart farewell. The list included actor Steve Carell, Olivia Munn, Stephen Colbert, Rob Corddry, Larry Wilmore and Rob Riggle.

Politicians like Hillary Clinton, Chris Christie, Rahm Emanuel, Chuck Schumer, John McCain and even Darth Vader, bid farewell to Stewart in taped video messages.

US news channel CBS took a look at the legacy of Stewart, and spoke to a number of celebrities about his unique brand of satire.

The full episode of the final The Daily Show hasn’t been uploaded to the show’s YouTube channel yet, as it is subjected to copyright, but you can watch Stewart’s final Moment of Zen below – which also features a performance by Bruce Springsteen.
