Meet Rolly, a keyboard for your phone that rolls up into a stick

Now here’s a true innovation that’ll appeal to a lot of people; LG’s Rolly is a full-sized wireless keyboard that folds up into a convenient shape that fits into a pocket.

The reason we like it? Well, typing anything longer than an SMS or WhatsApp message on a touchscreen is still quite uncomfortable. The fact that you can haul out the Rolly, unfold it and type as if you’re typing on a much larger and far more tactile keyboard will result in more than the odd badly spelt SMS when you’re away from your desk.

Rolly was unveiled just a few hours ago by LG via press statement, and is set to make its official debut at the upcoming IFA trade show in Berlin next week. LG hasn’t revealed pricing or availability yet, but we’re sure to hear more about that closer to its IFA appearance.

Here it is flat:

And here it is all rolled up:

The keyboard is made from “impact-resistant and durable polycarbonate and black ABS plastic”, and folds up with minimal effort. It works over Bluetooth, is powered by two AA batteries, and it can be paired with anything that supports Bluetooth.

That means it can connect to phones, tablets and even laptops, and since it also has a built-in tablet stand, we expect it to be quite popular with tablet owners.

Curios about how it might work in a real-world scenario? Check out LG’s official Rolly video:
