Here’s what it takes to 100% Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Metal Gear Solid V is a long, complicated and a very difficult game even if you’re not after every achievement/trophy/mission objective. So when someone announces they’ve not only finished the story but they’ve pretty much done everything the game requires of them, it’s a big deal.

That’s exactly what twitter user @PerfectStealth has done, as retweeted by none other than Konami themselves.

The achievement is staggering, frankly; I’ve spent over 50 hours playing the game so far and have only just reached Episode 29 and 40% completion. I have also only S-ranked about four missions so far plus I’ve missed a bunch of mission objectives. Believe me, I’m well aware of the sort of time commitment required to completely rinse this game.

I can only imagine that @PerfectStealth didn’t have a lot of real-life distractions to take him (or her) away from playing videogames all day, of course. And yes, I’m jealous. Damn you, Working For A Living and Having A Significant Other!

@PerfectStealth posted a picture to Twitter proving the claim, but I’m not going to post it here because it contains a minor spoiler. Should you wish to see it, Google the tweet at your own risk.

If you’re curious as to exactly what’s needed to 100% the game, here’s a quick checklist:

  • All missions completed.  Scoring an S-rank on every one isn’t required, according to my internet research, but it is required on a few in order to gain access to certain technologies, which count towards completion.
  • All mission objectives achieved. This one’s pretty tough, as mission objectives are numerous and varied and aren’t all laid out at the start, requiring re-plays to get them all. Fortunately you can go back and re-do them at any time, and any new technologies you’ve developed can be employed to make getting them easier. Stealth camouflage ftw.
  • All 147 side-ops completed.
  • Capture one of each type of animal of which there are 47. Take care, though, because some of them only appear in certain missions.
  • Develop some of the game’s core items, and at least one of each weapon type.

Do that, and you’ll 100% the game and join the ranks of really committed Metal Gear fans who’ve done the same.

I say well done, Mr/Ms/Mrs/Miss @PerfectStealth – your commitment to this superb game is phenomenal.
