Porsche unveils electric concept car

Tesla may be about to face some stiff competition in the electric car market – a space that it’s arguably dominated quite comfortably for quite some time now.

The reason for this is that Porsche has just unveiled the Mission E Concept electric car at The Frankfurt Motor Show. The Mission E Concept is a rather sexy-looking sedan powered by two electric motors that turn out more than 600 horsepower.

The vehicle can reportedly go from 0 to 97 kph in under 3.5 seconds, and when fully charged, is good for around 500 kms before the battery needs juicing. Porsche also says the Mission E Concept takes just 15 minutes to recharge its battery to 80 per cent, which means less waiting before drivers can hit the road again.

Interestingly, the Mission E Concept what Porsche is calling a “four-door, four-seat all-electric sedan”, which we assume that you can actually sit in the back seats without having to be an expert contortionist or a gym bag.

As impressive as all of this sounds – and Tesla will probably take note of it – it’s too early to call Porsche’s new concept a Tesla-killer just yet. Tesla’s SP85D model boasts both more horsepower and better acceleration than the Mission E Concept. Furthermore, as the name implies, the car is just in its concept stage and even if it was to go into production it’s doubtful it would hit the road any time soon.

That having been said, it is a rather sleek looking beast and more competition in the luxury electric car market can only be a good thing.
