The Star Wars BB-8 droid can be yours for R2 800

Today, according to Disney, is Force Friday, which makes it one of the most important days on the Star Wars calendar.

In a series of 18 events across the world, Disney will be unboxing 18 different toys live on their website – one of them being the cute little BB-8 droid from the upcoming The Force Awakens.

You may have been reading the reviews on BB-8, but you no longer have to dream about owning your own little droid as you can pre-order one from iStores across South Africa for R2 800.

The app-enabled toy is made by Sphero, and it will zip around your living room giving your inner Star Wars fan some serious goosebumps.

“Based on your interactions, BB-8 will show a range of expressions and perk up when you give voice commands. Watch your Droid explore autonomously, guide BB-8 yourself, or create and view holographic recordings. BB-8 is more than a toy – it’s your companion,” Apple explained on its website.

The droid will also allow you to record and view virtual holographic videos, and his unique attitude and actions evolve as you interact with it. After a while BB-8 will even start to recognise you and react to your voice.

If you want to pre-order one through the iStore (and who wouldn’t?!? – ed), head on over to its site. Apple is clearly expecting a lot of people to want one, because only one pre-order per customer is allowed. Time to create a few fake email addresses, maybe?
