Guilty verdict for Reuters journalist who colluded with Anonymous

Last year, Reuters journalist Matthew Keys was arrested on suspicion of colluding with the hacktivist collective known as Anonymous. Yesterday, the Reuters journalist was found guilty.

Keys was accused of handing over login information for LA Times parent company Tribune to Anonymous hackers with the intent of defacing the LA Times webpage. According to Keys he wanted to write a story about the hacktivist collective, but this was later disproved in court.

The journalist, who was found guilty by a jury yesterday, could potentially face 25 years in prison but officials speculate that he may only serve five.

The legal team working with Keys is set to appeal the verdict, given that the LA Times website was defaced for only 40 minutes which doesn’t constitute a felony offence.

According to his twitter account, Keys doesn’t seem all that pleased with the verdict.
