Hey hackers, got any plans for tomorrow (that don’t involve watching rugby)? There’s still time to sign up for one of three events designed to show you how to access and use datasets held by the government.

Organised by Code4SA under the theme of Liberate SA’s Data and based on the Data Quest format that’s worked well at previous events, there’s workshops being held in Cape Town, Durban and Pretoria, which run from 9am to 4pm (so you can still watch the ‘Boks).

I’ll be at the Pretoria event to say hi and help out the organisers there.

There’s T-Shirts and prizes on offer for teams who can make the best use of open data and turn it into compelling visual stories over the course of the day. All you need is some spare time and your own laptop.

Data scientists, journalists, civic minded developers are all welcome and encouraged to share their skills with others.
