Building maintenance in a Snap!

Looking at the founders of Cool Touch developers Snap!, Babongile Ntuli and Buhle Ntanzi, in their pressed suits and professional demeanours you wouldn’t guess that, a few months ago, they were scrapping gunk out of public pools.

Ntuli and Ntanzi wanted to create the most efficient and effective cleaning company South Africa had ever seen and they were not afraid to get their hands dirty doing it in the literal sense of the phrase.

It wasn’t long before the pair uttered the phrase that resulted in the birth of many startups “there must be a better way”.

It was at this point that Snap! was born. The app was designed to create a central point of contact for property managers, and the tenants in the buildings they manage.

Tenants log into the Snap! app which is available on Windows, iOS and Android to log a fault. The app uses geolocation to pinpoint where the fault is. Users are also able to include an image, a description of the problem and other information that may be of use to the property manager.

Tenants are able to report plumbing problems, faulty light fixtures, paint work and more through Snap!

The property owner is then able to view these faults and dispatch maintenance teams to the areas they are needed.

The app is free to download and use for tenants but property managers pay a monthly fee. This fee scales according to the amount of sites that need to be managed. The smallest package starts at R2 500 monthly and there is an initial set up fee of R5 000. This package allows management of up to 10 sites.

Ntuli goes on to explain how the remaining two pricing tiers are calculated, “the pricing is very much dependent on the footprint, how the system will need to be implemented and whether customisation of the app needs to be done. For this reason its difficult to stick a price tag on the standard and enterprise pricing tiers and we would need to meet with property owners to discuss their needs in detail.”

Snap! Has been operating since June of this year and has already secured business in the form of Lumic Property Consultants where they are finalising the proof of concept. Respublica which manages student accommodation in Johannesburg and Pretoria has also recently joined Snap!

Given the fact that Snap! is just four months old, the amount of interest its creators have garnered and the brands they are currently in discussions with to implement the service, is impressive to say the least.

Snap! is definitely a startup to watch out for.
