[WATCH] Fallout 4’s complete S.P.E.C.I.A.L. video series

A key part of any roleplaying game is statistics. Whether you’re assigning values in  videogames or drenching a character sheet in ink for a tabletop game, stats are what make a player character unique.

In the Fallout series of games the stats system is handled by a system called “S.P.E.C.I.A.L.”, which stands for player characteristics Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility and Luck respectively.

To reacquaint us with the game’s systems as well as the wastelands we’ll be wandering this November in Fallout 4,  publisher Bethesda Softworks has created a series of videos explaining each characteristic in detail.

Each video plays out like a grainy, black-and-white animation that may have been created in the 1950s, which the Fallout series draws its retro-futuristic inspiration from.

It is also presented as a kind of guide presented by Vaul-Tec (the corporation responsible for the game’s Vaults, and much more) to keep Vault Dwellers alive once they head to the surface. Each video ends with a comforting “Regularly study your Vault-Tec-provided materials to prepare for survival and to answer the question: do you know what makes you S.P.E.C.I.A.L?”

Watching each video closely may reveal some clues as to new additions for Fallout 4. One particular stand-out is a portion of the video explaining Intelligence, in which it seems to imply that there will be drivable cars in the game. This is a feature that has long been absent and something many fans have been clamouring for.

We invite you to watch all seven videos, queued up here for your viewing pleasure and convenience. Enjoy!
