Although South Africans have more choices than ever, good ol’ satellite television and DStv from Multichoice is still an extremely popular service. Now FNB has made it easier to pay for the service with its Cellphone Banking.
There are some prerequisites, however: you need to be an FNB customer with Cellphone Banking, as well as a DSTV subscriber with an active account, and don’t forget a phone to do this all from.
Once the conditions are met, customers can view outstanding amounts on their account, make full or partial payments, as well as being able to top up their Box Office accounts. In addition, subscription fees can be paid on someone else’s behalf, much like buying airtime for another user. It’s also worth noting that this service can be used to reconnect the service if it has been disconnected.
In short: you’ll find everything you need to remain in the good books of Multichoice’s accounts department, as well as keeping your DStv connected.
So, how does it all work? We gave it a whirl and found that it’s already live (or, at least accessible), and here’s the steps to get to it:
- Dial *120*321#
- Select option 1; “Buy/Prepaid”.
- Select option 6; “PayTV”.
- Select either option 1; “DSTV” or 2; “BoxOffice”.
And that’s it. From there you’ll need to enter the smart card or customer number for the account you want to work with and you’re off.
FNB is no lightweight when it comes to mobile money, as we reported on last month:
For the month of July, FNB saw R1 billion being sent through its eWallet mobile money app. That is an increase of 66% compared to July last year, when transactions through the app totalled just R650 000.
We should note that here FNB refers to money being sent from one person to another, as opposed to paying for goods and services.
