Register for Xiaomi’s R3799 flagship phone “flash sale” today

We’ve been waiting for news about Xiaomi, or Mi as it is widely known, to bring its smartphones to South Africa. After quite a wait, the brand is finally here in South Africa and its smartphones will launch on our shores next week Friday.

The brand will be making its flagship handset, the Mi 4, available through a flash sale.

A flash sale is commonly how the Mi brand sells its smartphones in Asia and is a way for online retailers to match the large demand for a limited supply of smartphones. “We want to make sure that dedicated Mi Fans have the first opportunity to buy the limited quantity of Mi 4 smartphones that will be arriving in the country next week”, RJ van Spaandonk, president of Mobile in Africa (MIA) said in a statement.

MIA is the company who will be bringing the Mi 4 and other Mi handsets into the country. The flagship Mi 4 features a 5-inch Full HD display and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor operating at 2.5GHz. The rear 13MP camera features an  ƒ/1.8 aperture and the front snapper is a large 8MP affair.

Interested?

To get your hands on one of these smartphones you’ll need to register online between 09:00 today (20 November) and 23:59 on Thursday 26 November. The handsets will go on sale at midday on Friday 27 November for as long as stocks are available, though MIA is suggesting that buyers log in at around 10:00 in anticipation of the sale.

According to Spaandonk the Mi 4 “…is arguably the best flagship device R3 799 can buy in South Africa at this stage”; once we get our hands on one we’ll confirm that for you.
