Doctor Who’s Weeping Angels terrify players in Call of Duty: Black Ops III

Black Ops III has a really cool Easter egg hidden in its Nuketown map: Weeping Angels.

Weeping Angels are infamous in science fiction; they’re the “monsters” from Doctor Who who take on the form of petrified statues that only move when you’re not looking at them. When they catch up to you (from the back, where you can’t see them) they “eradicate their victims ‘mercifully’ by dropping them into the past and letting them live out their full lives, just in a different time period.” If you need any nightmare fuel, just look at the header image.

On the multiplayer map “Nuketown” (a nuclear test site made to look like a typical town), there are mannequins littered around the homes in to simulate residents of the doomed neighbourhood. If a player makes the effort to shoot all of the arms off, and then turn their backs, the mannequins will animate and sprint towards players and attack, just as Weeping Angels do.

Although the mannequins look more like the robots from I, Robot , they’re just as terrifying as their source material.

Besides being pummelled to death by their magically-regrown arms, the scariest thing about them is the way they freeze when the player claps eyes on them and how they flop lifelessly on the floor when “killed”.

Another Easter Egg can be activated by shooting off the mannequins’ heads instead, which will turn them into zombies. Say what you want about Fallout’s enemies and what radiation does to them, this is much worse.
