Hisense’s most advanced 55inch 4K TV is made in SA

Multinational technology manufacturer Hisense has unveiled the 55T910UWD TV, a 55inch curved 4K beast of a display that is reportedly one of the first 4K TVs to feature Ultra LED (ULED) 2.0 technology.

The good news? Hisense says it’s  not only going to be available in South Africa but will also be made right here at the Hisense factory in Atlantis, Cape Town.

ULED 2.0 technology was first showcased at CES Las Vegas earlier this year, and works by combining LED back lighting with technology found in LCD displays. Hisense says that ULED 2.0 will give users a higher dynamic contrast, a wider colour gamut and improved backlight scanning to lessen the effects of motion blur.

To achieve deep blacks and a better contrast, the 65XT910 is able to control 144 zones on the TV individually dimming LED backlights, or switching them off altogether. This sort of technology has previously been seen only in OLED TVs.

By using quantum dots – nanocrystals that are able to emit light in a variety of colours – Hisense claims that it has achieved a colour gamut range of 108%, meaning that images should be more vibrant.

Yesterday Hisense also unveiled the much larger 65inch TV that sports the same technology as this version, though it controls more dimming zones – 240 – and is of course larger. Unfortunately the press release we received says this model will not be available in South Africa.

Thankfully, however, the 55T910UWD is available locally right now from major electronics retailers; expect prices to start at R24 999.
