Huawei looking at 4.5G and 5G connectivity in Africa

Chinese technology firm, Huawei, announced at AfricaCom 2015 that it has joined the Southern Africa Telecommunications Association (SATA) to further increase ICT development on the continent.

Having recently signed a memorandum of understanding to push forward ICT development through literacy and infrastructure with SATA, Huawei is now a fully fledged member of the organisation.

“With this partnership we will be able to develop more projects and more programmes to develop broadband in our region” SATA Chief executive officer, Jacob Munodawafa told htxt.africa in an interview after handing the certificate of membership over to Huawei vice president for Eastern and Southern Africa, Cao Ming.

While this will spur on deployment of LTE connectivity solutions to rural areas, the key focus will be on the implementation of 4.5G, 5G and other next generation technologies on the African continent.

According to Munodawafa, the partnership with Huawei will go a long way to securing the infrastructure needed to bring this sort of connectivity to the continent.

“Apart from supplying us with the infrastructure needed,” Munodawafa says, “We will work with Huawei to find the best solution to deploying these connectivity options to users.”
