Portal is coming to Rocket League, for free, this December

Rejoice all Rocket League players! Your vehicular team-based knockabout sports game is about to become even more left-of-the-dial. From December 1st Portal-themed content will be added to the game.

Unfortunately, there’s no portal guns or portals being added to the game. Instead, you’ll be able to customize your cars with Portal-themed cosmetic items.

The items are randomly awarded at the completion of full games, irrespective of the game’s result. Players can unlock the following items:

  • Cake (Topper)
  • Conversion Gel (Rocket Trail)
  • Propulsion Gel (Rocket Trail)
  • Repulsion Gel (Rocket Trail)
  • Aperture Laboratories (Antenna)
  • Cake Sticker (Antenna)
  • Companion Cube (Antenna)
  • Personality Core (Antenna)
  • PotatOS (Antenna)

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Rocket League’s terminology, a topper is a hat for the cars, a rocket trail is the colourful stream that comes out of the cars’ exhausts, and antenna ornaments are little flags. In the header image you’ll see one of the cars with the Aperture Laboratories antenna.

All of this new content is free and players will just need to keep playing if they want to unlock it all.

Despite being released in July of this year, Rocket League already has three other DLC packs, one of which was a crossover with Back to the Future.

If you want to pick up the game, read our review here to see if its worth your time.  If you decide it is, it can be had for the discounted price of R153.30 on Steam.

Start your engines.
