[WATCH] Preacher World Premier Trailer

Comic book fanboys and girls rejoice! The US network AMC has just premiered the first trailer for its forthcoming series, Preacher.

The trailer was aired in the middle of the most recent episode of The Walking Dead that aired Stateside, which fits because, hey, they’re both shows based on gritty, gory comic books.

If you’ve never heard of it, Preacher is based on the seminal DC/Vertigo comic book series of the same name that was created by writer Garth Ennis and artist Steve Dillon in the early 1990s.

The comic follows the fortunes of Jesse Custer, a southern preacher who one day is possessed by a spirit called Genesis, which enables him to speak with the voice of God – all who hear it have to obey it.

The trailer doesn’t show whether or not Custer – played by Dominic Cooper (Need For Speed, The Devil’s Double) – has the power of the Genesis in the series. However, we do know the show’s main narrative involves the titular clergyman’s hunt for God and that he’ll be accompanied by his hitwoman girlfriend Tulip (Ruth Negga) and an Irish vampire called Cassidy (Joe Gilgun).

The pilot was shot earlier this year, but Preacher isn’t set for release until mid-2016. This means the USA (and any other potential viewers) have about nine months to get cosy with a show that may just portray God as an authoritarian and petty so-and-so who turned his back on all creation. For others, this idea might not be too much of a stretch.
