Donald Trump wants to close up the internet “in some ways”

Anyone with even a passing interest in the US Presidential race will know that GOP candidate and wild-haired tycoon Donald Trump has something of a reputation for making controversial statements.

Since his election campaign kicked off, The Don hasinsulted  Mexican immigrants in the States – as well as most of Mexico – dismissed global warming as a conspiracy theory and most recently, he called for a ban on all Muslims travelling to the United States.

Now, it sounds like he wants certain sections of the internet shut down and, apparently, he believes Bill Gates can help him achieve this.

At a rally in South Carolina last night, Trump revealed his lack of knowledge on how the internet works to a crowd of supporters.

“We’re losing a lot of people because of the internet,” he said. “We have to see Bill Gates and a lot of different people that really understand what’s happening. We have to talk to them about, maybe in certain areas, closing that internet up in some ways.”

Right.

Trump went on to posit that anyone who disagreed with his idea on ethical grounds was a fool.

“Somebody will say, ‘Oh freedom of speech, freedom of speech.’ These are foolish people,” he said.

Once again… right.

If you think we’re making this up have a gander at the footage below, which comes courtesy of Twitter user @NotBUFFY_VS.

Usually we don’t follow The Don as he stays off our beat for the most part, but the idea that Bill Gates has his hand on a lever that powers the internet was a little too delicious not to share.
