South Africa gets its own online Microsoft Store

On Tuesday, Microsoft very quietly launched the Microsoft Store for South Africa. It’s an online portal where South Africans can buy many of the company’s products and services in Rands. Previously, the only Microsoft store South Africans could access was the US version, where everything was priced in dollars and local shipping wasn’t offered. Now, locals can buy Microsoft goodies directly from the company in Rands and get whatever they bought delivered for free.

“The explosion of social and mobile technology has ignited ‘the era of the smart shopper’ where consumer purchase decisions are determined through online product and service content and reviews. We are also finding that more and more local consumers look to benefit from the convenience afforded to them from secure online shopping and free delivery, which they can find in the Microsoft online store” says Zoaib Hoosen, MD of Microsoft South Africa.

The store can be found at http://za.microsoftstore.com, and you’ll find everything from Xboxes and games to Office 365 subscriptions, Windows-powered PCs and tablets to Lumia phones, all priced in ZAR. Also available are products from Microsoft’s partners, so expect to find laptops, tablets, convertibles and more from HP, Dell, Lenovo and others there too.

The newly-launched Lumia 950 and 950XL are also there; these phones are remarkable because they are capable of pulling double-duty as full-blown Windows 10 PCs courtesy of Continuum for phones. Expect to pay R11 499 for the 950XL and R10 549 for the 950.

Head over to the store to check out Microsoft’s pricing; some things are a bit expensive (Tomb Raider costs R999) but everything you could ever possibly want directly from Microsoft is there, and delivery is free.
