There’s a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game in the pipeline

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have taken their lumps over the years.

What started out as a rather violent and funny underground comic book morphed into a toy-range, an animated series (in which the word ‘Hero’ replaced ‘Ninja’), a couple of lousy movies (one of which starred Vanilla Ice) and then a slow dive into pop culture obscurity.

There were, of course, video games. The one that stands out most in the memory is four player arcade game that was abominably hard and chewed through the coins of many a kid that played it. Other games starring the heroes in a halfshell ranged from middling to negligible in quality.

Now, a new game has homed into view on the horizon, but this one actually looks rather good. This shouldn’t be too much of a surprise to anyone who follows the games industry relatively closely as it’s being developed by Platinum Games – a studio that, over the years, has become shorthand for ‘high quality’. Have a gander at the trailer and judge for yourself.

This would be the second time that Platinum Games has developed game for Activision that’s based on an old, beloved piece of pop culture nostalgia – the other being last year’s admittedly rather good Transformers: Devastation.

It’s also worth noting that Platinum Games has a reputation for developing titles that straddle the line between casual and ultra hardcore with enviable ease. It’s going to be interesting to see how they accomplish this using Leonardo and the gang, but we have high hopes.
