You can now buy Games in Development on GOG

Despite it’s name, Good Old Games (GOG) will now be offering games that are still under development, similar to Steam’s Early Access programme.

Called “Games in Development”, there are currently five games on offer at a reduced price:

Each of the above games is available to buy right now, with the added bonuses of being DRM free and can be refunded within 14 days, no questions asked.

What you may be asking, however, is “why?”. Newer games aren’t exactly GOG’s mainstay, and Early Access has already been established. In fact, this even even addressed in the Games in Development FAQ with the rather brunt question: “Is this different from early access?”

Aside from the two reason above, GOG’s game client Galaxy lets you manually control updates made to the game, and let you roll back to previous versions. In Early Access games, this is an especially poignant issue, with games like Darkest Dungeon being laminated by players when gameplay elements are changed. Lastly, as a stab towards Steam’s, how do we put this, “lacklustre” quality control over its store front, GOG promises “quality of quantity” in their curation.

If you want to pick up any of the above games, remember that they’re all available through Steam as well. In addition: they’re cheaper (even without the discount!) thanks to that store’s local pricing.
