Government mobile programme offers help to get unplaced matrics a spot at SA universities

The Department of Higher Education and Training has again launched its annual mobile and online programme to help 2015 matrics who passed, but could not apply for registration at a university for this year, to secure a spot.

A number of learners who pass matric every year do not apply to a university on time either because they had been waiting on their results to know whether or not they qualify for a course or did apply but were not offered a place at the institution of their choice after the release of the matric results.

The department sets up the annual Central Application Clearing House (CACH) from January to February to assist such learners by getting in touch with universities to find out if there are any spots left in a learner’s course of choice and helping facilitate their placement should there still be space.

If you’re a learner or know someone who fits this description and would like to get help through CACH, contact the toll free call centre on 0800 356 635, or send an SMS with your name, ID and contact number to 49200 and the department will be call you back or you can visit the CACH website.

Keeping in mind that your results may not be adequate for admission into a university course, CACH is also applicable to private colleges and technical and vocational education and training (TVET) colleges.

Not sure what career path you would like to pursue? There’s also a free career counselling helpline that can help you decide, before applying at a institution of higher learning. You can make use of it by calling 086 999 0123 (standard call rates apply).
