SweepSouth secures R10 million worth of venture capital injection

South African cleaning services startup and 500 startups alumni, SweepSouth, has just concluded a successful round of funding from various top local venture capitalists.

The FNB-managed Vumela Fund, Silicon Cape co-founder Vinny Lingham and Newtown Partners all invested an accumulative R10 million in SwwepSouth, beginning in April last year and rounding up this month.

“The start of 2016 suggests a year that will be no less exciting for us,” Aisha Pandor, CEO an co-founder of SweepSouth said in statement.

Pandor added that the latest cash injection will enable the company to further expand its national footprint and offer many more work opportunities.

SweepSouth said it has created thousands of job opportunities in the last few months for women, the vast majority of whom were unemployed, resulting in over 100 000 hours of cleaning being completed over this time.

“We think SweepSouth is one of the leading tech startups in SA. The on-demand economy is a huge growth area because a lot of consumers’ needs can be far better served with tech-enabled, on-demand services,” lead investor Janice Johnston of Edge Growth, one of the FNB’s partners in the Vumela Fund.

“The exciting job creation opportunities which the SweepSouth platform provides professional cleaners, is an important attribute of the investment for the Vumela Fund.  SweepSouth has one of the most dynamic and creative teams in the startup space and we think they’ll take on-demand service adoption to another level in SA,” Johnston added.
