The Java plug-in is being abandoned, the world is a safer place

The Java plug-in for browsers has been a known safety risk to your PC for years and now its developer Oracle is taking it out to pasture.

This will not be an overnight procedure, as support for the it is lessened in the Java Developer Kit (JDK) 9, and will ultimately be removed in future versions.

As a replacement, Oracle is offering a plug-in free alternative in the form of Java Web Start.

It joins the likes of Silverlight and Flash as many internet explorers drop plug-ins altogether in an effort to make surfing the web safer. If your favourite browser hasn’t dropped it yet, expect it to happen soon.

If your site or work depends on such plug-ins, we suggest exploring your other options, or looking into the early access of JDK 9.
