More Xbox 360 titles available to play on Xbox One

When Microsoft revealed its backwards compatibility program at E3 last year, the announcement was met with some scepticism mixed in with the unbridled excitement.

The naysayers had legitimate concerns; while backwards compatibility was welcome news, what guarantee did Xbox One owners have that the Xbox 360 games available would be marquee titles? With every second publisher releasing ‘remastered’ titles for the current gen consoles and charging a premium for them, how many triple-A titles would backwards compatibility offer?

So far, however, Microsoft has provided a rather decent list of Xbox 360 games for the Xbox One. Sure, there are a raft of titles like A World Of Kelflings, Battle Block Theatre and Sacred Theatre that players can take or leave, but the likes of Assassin’s Creed II, Portal, Fallout 3, Halo: Spartan Assault and the entire Gears Of War series have been made available.

This week, Microsoft has added more Xbox 360 titles to the Xbox One’s catalogue and among the likes of Skullgirls (a rather good 2D fighter) and Aegis Wing, XBO players now have access to Counter Strike: Global Offensive and (drumroll) The Witcher 2: Assassin Of Kings.

The latter is easily one of the best fantasy RPG games from the last generation of consoles and if you’ve never played it, we strongly urge you to pick up a copy. The game’s sheer quality is enough to recommend it, but if you’re still not convinced, its developer CD Projeckt Red is offering all of its DLC for free until February 5th.

Witcher 3 fans probably already own a copy and for everyone else, this is a great chance to get acquainted with the series. It’s like Game Of Thrones meets Elder Scrolls – what more do you want?
