Help design a 3D printed RC car, win prizes

The OpenR/C formula 1 car designed Daniel Noree is a fantastic idea – a radio controlled (RC) car that is entirely 3D printed, except for the wheels and internal electronics.

Now you can help improve on the design thanks to a contest held by 3D design site Pinshape.

OpenR/C is completely open source for you to download, mess around with, and print. The new version of the original now has accessory holes in the front end, bumper, sides, and inside the cockpit.

Your task for the contest is to design accessories for that fit into these slots to either improve the design or give the car more functionality.

First price is a ZYYX+ 3D Printer  which is currently priced at $2 077 (R3 3296), as well as a polo shirt. There’s also prizes for 2nd to 10th place, which you can see below.

Once you’ve created your accessory (based on these files), you’ll need to upload them to Pinshape and check the “Submit this model to the Open R/C Accessory Design Contest” box. Closing date is March 15th, 2016.

Only one accessory will win, but uploading multiple creations will count as multiple entries, which will increase your chances of winning. Entry is free and (thankfully for us) open worldwide.

Check out the contest page if you want to know more.
