Where to watch the Constitutional Court pass judgment on the Nkandla saga

The eyes of the nation turn to Bloemfontein today as all 11 Constitutional Court judges pass judgement on the Nkandla case.

The judgment is being called ‘momentous’ and will determine whether President Jacob Zuma flouted his responsibility to uphold the constitution by failing to comply with a ruling by the Public Protector, Thuli Madonsela.

Madonsela’s ruling was that the President should pay back a portion of the money spent on non-essential security upgrades to his Nkandla homestead in Kwa-Zulu Natal. This includes features such as the infamous “fire pool”.

While the Consitutional Court does not have the power to impeach President Zuma, should the 11 judges rule that his actions were a breach of office, it would make it harder for the ANC caucus in Parliament to overrule calls for an impeachment.
