Assassin’s Creed film is getting the VR treatment

The is no denying that virtual reality (VR) is one of the hottest tech at the moment, with everybody seemingly jumping on the band wagon.

Oculus and its Rift headset has been forging most of the path by itself, but with Samsung’s biggest push ever with its Gear VR, there seems to be no stopping this train. Games developer Ubisoft has also now boarded the journey, and announced a virtual reality version of the hugely-popular Assassins Creed franchise.

But before you think that you will be able to traverse to the top of Big Ben in Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, the VR experienced announced yesterday is not a game.

Together with visual effects company Practical Magic, Ubisoft will be working on a VR experience that is based on the upcoming film – which is scheduled to hit theatre by the end of the year.

Matthew Lewis, president of Practical Magic VR and director of VR experiences explained during AMD’s GDC press conference that the VR content was filmed alongside the theatrical release. Other than that, such as which platforms it will be available on (like Samsung’s Gear VR or HTC’s Vive) isn’t clear.

“We’re excited about the announcement of the Assassin’s Creed VR Experience and we look forward to working with New Regency, Fox and Practical Magic to share more in the future,” said Ubisoft spokesperson, Michael Beadle.
