South Africans take to Twitter to poke and prod the Guptas

What do South Africans do best when an outrage is revealed to the nation? That’s right we tweet about it and the current saga involving the Gupta family is no different.

This week former ANC MP, Vytjie Mentor alleged that the Gupta family had offered her the position as Minister of Public Enterprises on condition she make business decisions which were favourable to the family.

Then, just yesterday, EWN reported that Deputy Finance Minister, Mcebisi Jonas had alleged that the Gupta family had offered him the position of Minister of Finance. The offer was made when Nhlanhla Nene still held the position.

The Gupta family has denied these allegations.

But this denial has not stopped South Africa’s Twitter community from being judge, jury and executioner with many expressing, disgust, concern and disappointment using the hashtag #GuptaGate.

Of course, we aren’t always serious and earlier today, #StateCaptureMovieTitles started trending with hilarity taking the charge.

This is a tiny fraction of the tweets that have cropped up and more are being shared every second, so if you’re having a bad day check out the #StateCaptureMovieTitles on Twitter, it will be worth it.

On a related note, President Jacob Zuma is set to answer questions put forward by MP’s before Parliament this afternoon, of which the issues currently circling the nation will be brought before the leader.

You can watch the live stream on ENCA as well as the Parliament of the Republic of South Africa YouTube channel.
