Waze will soon let you know when you’re speeding

Crowdsourcing traffic app Waze has come up with a way to help you avoid speeding and getting in trouble when you’re driving on an unfamiliar road.

The company recently launched a new, simple feature that’ll alert you when you’ve gone over the speeding limit, with an on-screen speedometer displayed on your screen within the app.

The speedometer tracks the speed at which you’re driving and displays it as it rises and drops. Once you’ve reached and/or passed the limit, an alert will pop up.

You can customise the alert to appear either when the speed limit is reached, or when your speed exceeds the limit by five, 10 or 15%.

The speed limits were crowdsourced from more than 360 000 global volunteers who verified speed limits on the Waze Map Editor over a number of months.

According to Waze, the new feature is one way it’s trying to promote road safety.

The speedometer is currently available in ustria, Belgium, Brazil, Colombia, Czech Republic, El Salvador, France, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Netherlands, New Zealand, Romania, Sweden, Switzerland, Trinidad, Tobago and Uruguay and will be available to all other countries soon.
